Why God Comes Running

Akbar & Birbal Tales

A classic tale retold for young readers — full of wit, wisdom, and wonderful surprises.

On a bright, sunny day in the bustling city of Fatehpur Sikri, Emperor Akbar sat on his grand throne with a twinkle in his eye. He loved riddles as much as he cherished his sweet treats! “Birbal,” he said with a playful grin, “Why does the mighty Lord Krishna rush to help everyone who calls for him? Isn’t that a bit silly for such a powerful God?” Birbal chuckled, knowing Akbar was up for some fun. “Your Majesty, perhaps I can show you!” he replied, his eyes sparkled with mischief.

This week, Birbal came up with a clever plan. He asked a talented sculptor to create a stunning wax statue of little Prince Khurram, the Emperor’s beloved grandson. The statue was dressed in the finest clothes, adorned with sparkling jewels that glittered like stars. It looked so real that you might think it could giggle!

One sunny morning, Birbal invited Akbar for a stroll through the royal gardens, where colorful flowers danced in the gentle breeze. As they walked past the shimmering lake, Birbal’s clever servant carried the statue, pretending it was the real prince. Just then, with a loud “Oops!” the servant tripped! The statue soared through the air and—SPLASH!—plunged into the deep, dark lake!

Akbar’s eyes widened in shock. Without a second thought, he ripped off his royal robes, revealing his bright silk shirt, and leaped into the chilly water with a mighty SPLASH! He swam with all his might, his heart racing. Finally, he emerged, gasping, holding the wax figure high above the water!

Confusion filled the air as Akbar looked at the doll in his hands, dripping wet. Birbal stood at the edge of the lake, smiling. “Your Majesty, why didn’t you wait for your guards?”

Akbar gazed down at the statue of his dear grandson, his heart overflowing with love. “Because he means everything to me. I couldn’t wait for anyone else to save him,” he whispered, a gentle smile breaking through his bewilderment.

In that moment, Akbar understood that true love leaps into action, no matter the challenge!
