The Offering to the River

Vikram & Betaal Tales

A spine-tingling Vikram and Betaal riddle — where a brave king must answer or lose everything!

On a starry night, when the moon shone like a silver coin, a brave young woman named Radha peeked out of her window. Suddenly, with a loud CRASH, a young man named Gopal burst through her door, his heart racing like a wild horse. He was being chased by the king’s soldiers, their boots thumping like thunder in the distance. Radha’s heart pounded as she quickly hid him behind her curtain, just as the guards knocked on her door. “No one here!” she said with a sweet smile. The guards stomped away, and Radha turned to Gopal, who was shaking with fear.

As the warm glow of the lamp danced in the room, Radha noticed how handsome Gopal was, his kind eyes sparkling like the stars outside. Love blossomed between them in that cozy room, and soon they married in a tiny temple filled with flowers and laughter. But one day, Gopal had to leave for important work in another town. He promised to return, but days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Gopal never came back, and Radha's heart broke into tiny pieces.

To help her, Radha's father found a gentle man named Dinesh. He welcomed Radha and her baby, Harish, with open arms. Dinesh filled their home with happiness, teaching Harish to walk, read, and ride a horse. But as the years flew by, both Radha and Dinesh passed away, leaving Harish alone in the world.

With a heavy heart, Harish went to the sacred river, where he offered delicious food as a way to say goodbye. Suddenly, SPLASH! Three hands appeared from the sparkling water—one soft, one strong, and one full of warmth. “Offer the food to ME!” they called, each voice a magical echo of love. Confused yet curious, Harish saw the glowing faces of his mother, biological father, and loving dad. In that moment of shimmering clarity, he remembered Dinesh’s warm hugs and gentle laughter.

Choosing from the three hands, Harish smiled brightly, understanding that it was the love that filled his life that mattered most. As the river sparkled and the voices faded, he felt a warm glow in his heart, knowing he had chosen the right path filled with love that would carry him through every adventure ahead.
