The Blind Sons and the Truth

Vikram & Betaal Tales

A spine-tingling Vikram and Betaal riddle — where a brave king must answer or lose everything!

The silver moon shimmered in the night sky, guiding Vikram along a familiar path. He stepped into the quiet cremation ground, where shadows danced like playful fairies, and secrets whispered in the cool breeze. Suddenly, a lively voice echoed through the air. It was Betaal, the cheeky spirit, ready to spin another marvelous tale.

“Listen carefully, Vikram!” he exclaimed. “This story is about a kind Brahmin who had two blind sons, but they were no ordinary boys! The elder son could discover a horse’s deepest secrets just by touching it, while the younger son had a magical gift for gemstones, sensing their true nature like a heartbeat.”

One day, their father decided to give the boys to a powerful king in exchange for a treasure of gold coins. “I will return for you,” he promised, giving them a warm hug before leaving. The elder son was the first to face a challenge. A horse trader came with magnificent horses, their manes flowing like golden rivers. The boy gracefully ran his fingers over the horses and exclaimed, “These horses are wild! They’ll toss their riders high into the sky!” The king, unsure, decided to test him. Just then, one horse reared up and sent its rider sprawling to the ground! The king gasped as the horse trader hurried away in fright.

Next up was the younger son. A jeweler entered, holding a dazzling ruby that sparkled like the night stars. The blind boy touched it and shivered. “This ruby brings sadness wherever it goes!” he warned. The jeweler turned ghostly pale and bolted from the palace, leaving everyone in awe.

Finally, the Brahmin was asked to share his wisdom. “What about me?” the king demanded, his eyes sharp. With a proud smile, the Brahmin revealed the truth of the king’s ancestors. But as he spoke, the king’s expression shifted from curiosity to fury. “SEIZE THEM!” he thundered, his voice shaking the palace like a storm.

Vikram listened, heart racing. He understood that sometimes, speaking the truth can unleash a whirlwind of trouble. As Betaal vanished into the night, Vikram reflected on the importance of knowing when to share wisdom and when to keep secrets safe, like treasures hidden from the storm.

The Moral of the Story

"Sometimes it's better to keep a secret than to share the truth if it can cause trouble."

Vikram and Betaal tales test the wisest minds — every riddle carries a lesson about justice, truth, and the courage to think deeply.
