Tenali Raman Tales

A hilarious Tenali Raman tale where wit, humour, and a sharp mind save the day!

ACHOO! ACHOO! ACHOOOOO! The sound bounced around Tenali Raman's cozy home like a playful puppy. His nose was bright red, like a shiny cherry, and his eyes sparkled with tears from all the sneezing. Every few moments, a mighty sneeze erupted from him, shaking the walls and making his wife giggle. “Oh, Tenali!” she chuckled, handing him a steaming bowl of herbal soup. “Before you go to the temple tonight, remember to ask Kali Ma for GOLD! No funny business this time—just something useful!”

With a scratchy nose and a determined nod, Tenali set off to the temple, the moon shining like a giant pearl above him. The night was quiet as he arrived at the majestic temple, where a flickering lamp cast shadows that danced like playful spirits. Taking a deep breath, Tenali closed his eyes and prayed with all his heart. Suddenly, a wild wind swept through the air—WHOOOSH! The ground trembled, and there she was: the magnificent goddess Kali Ma!

She was awe-inspiring with her thousand eyes, and Tenali couldn't believe his own eyes. “One… ten… a hundred… a THOUSAND noses!” he gasped, trying not to tremble. But just then, a funny thought tickled his mind, and he burst out laughing! “Oh, forgive me, Mother! If you ever caught a cold, you'd need a thousand handkerchiefs!”

Kali Ma's fierce expression softened, and soon her laughter rolled out like a joyful thunderstorm. “You cheeky man,” she giggled. “You should be punished for your silliness, but instead, you made me laugh!” With a wave of her hand, she offered him a beautiful shimmering cloth.

“Is this a magical cloth that brings riches?” Tenali asked, eyes wide with excitement. “It’s a handkerchief,” she replied, her face perfectly serious, “for when your nose runs again!”

With a WHOOSH, she vanished, her laughter echoing in the air. Tenali returned home, grinning from ear to ear. He wiped his nose on the magical cloth, feeling like the richest man in the world. Sometimes, the greatest treasures come in the most unexpected forms!
