One sunny evening, a tiny Mouse with a twitching nose and a grumbling tummy stumbled upon a farmer’s bustling storehouse. As he tiptoed through the door, a delightful smell wafted toward him, wrapping around him like a cozy blanket. It was the smell of fresh, golden grain! His eyes widened with excitement as he spotted a huge basket brimming with shimmering grains—more than he had ever dreamed of!
“Oh, how wonderful!” squeaked the Mouse, his heart racing. “I can slip right in!” With a quick wiggle, he squeezed through a little hole at the edge of the basket and landed softly amongst the grains. Crunch! Munch! Each bite was tastier than the last, and soon he was feasting like a little king at a grand banquet.
But as he nibbled and nibbled, the Mouse didn’t notice his tummy growing rounder and rounder. Just a few more bites, he thought, as the grains sparkled and beckoned to him. Finally, after what felt like a magical feast, he decided it was time to leave and curl up for a cozy nap.
But when he turned to escape through the little hole, panic struck! He was stuck! No matter how he twisted or turned, he couldn't squeeze back out. Just then, a wise old Rat shuffled by, his whiskers twitching with curiosity. “What’s going on in there?” he asked, peering into the basket.
“I’m trapped!” squeaked the Mouse, his voice trembling. “Please help me!”
The Rat chuckled gently, his eyes shining with understanding. “You went in thin, little friend, but now you must learn to be patient. If you wait a while and skip a few meals, you might just fit through that hole again.”
Feeling heavy and sad, the Mouse sank into the grains he once loved. Now, each shiny kernel reminded him of his greed. As he closed his eyes, he dreamed of running free in fields of green, chasing butterflies under the bright sun. Hours passed, and while it was hard to wait, he realized he had learned a lesson: sometimes, wanting too much can leave us stuck when we least expect it.
