Once upon a time, on a bright and sunny festival morning, there lived a lively donkey named Dapper. With his big floppy ears and strong back, he was a sight to behold! Today was special because his kind master had chosen him for an important task. As the sun sparkled overhead, the master placed a beautifully carved wooden image of a god on Dapper's back, decorated with colorful flowers, shimmering ribbons, and soft cloth that fluttered like butterflies in the gentle breeze.
As Dapper stepped into the bustling streets filled with laughter and music, he felt a magical thrill. Priests in elegant robes gathered around him, and musicians played cheerful tunes that danced through the air. Dapper could hardly believe his eyes! People began to gather, their faces filled with wonder. One by one, they bowed their heads and knelt before him. “Oh, look at me!” thought Dapper, puffing up with pride. “They must adore my strong back!”
But then, Dapper had a dazzling idea! “What if I show them just how magnificent I am?” He halted right in the middle of the road, took a deep breath, and let out a loud, triumphant bray, “Hee-hawww!” The music stumbled to a stop, the priests froze, and the entire procession went silent. Suddenly, Dapper’s master rushed over, his face twisted with worry. “Move, you silly donkey!” he exclaimed, gently nudging Dapper. “They aren’t bowing to you! They are honoring the sacred image you carry!”
Dapper’s heart sank. He looked around and realized—no one was admiring his lovely ears or shiny hooves. Everyone was gazing at the beautiful wooden image on his back. Deflated, he resumed walking, his proud head drooping, understanding now that being part of something grand didn’t mean he was grand himself.
As he made his way to the temple, Dapper’s steps became steady and gentle. He carried the sacred image with care, feeling the weight of the lesson settle in his heart. The joyous music started again, but Dapper no longer imagined himself as the star. He had discovered something much more valuable and carried his load with a humble spirit, ready to make a difference with the magic of his own heart.
