Once upon a time, in a chilly kingdom where winter loved to stay forever, lived a kind girl named Marta and her clever but lazy sister, Gritta. One frosty morning, as the sun peeked through the clouds, Marta dropped her shiny spindle into an old stone well. Before she knew it, she leaned in and WHOOSH! She was whisked away through a swirling tunnel of sparkling light!
When Marta landed, she found herself in a magical meadow filled with flowers dancing in the breeze. "Where am I?" she wondered, her eyes wide with wonder. As she strolled along a sunny path, she heard a frantic voice. "Help! Help!" cried a friendly oven. "My bread is burning!" Marta rushed over and opened the oven door, releasing warm, sweet-smelling loaves that danced like golden sunbeams. "Thank you, dear girl!" sang the oven, and Marta beamed with happiness.
Next, she spotted an apple tree shaking its branches. "Shake me! Shake me!" it begged. Marta laughed and gave the tree a good shake, and apples rained down like shimmering jewels!
Then, she discovered a cozy little cottage with an old woman named Mother Holle. "Welcome, dear Marta! If you shake my featherbed every morning, I will reward you," she said with a twinkle in her eyes. Marta agreed and shook the feathers with all her might. POOF! Snowflakes swirled into the sky, bringing joy to the world below.
When it was time to go home, Mother Holle guided Marta to a magnificent golden gate. As she walked through, glittering gold rained down, covering her like a sunny treasure!
Excited, Marta returned home, shining bright. Her mother, amazed by her glow, pushed Gritta down the well, hoping for the same magic. But Gritta was lazy, refusing to help the oven or shake the apple tree. When she reached the golden gate, a thick, black tar splattered over her instead! No matter how hard she scrubbed, it wouldn't wash away.
While Marta continued to spread happiness in the kingdom, Gritta learned that true treasure comes from being kind and hardworking, not just clever.
