Once upon a time, in a sparkling castle surrounded by blooming flowers and swaying trees, there lived twelve enchanting princesses. Each night, they snuggled into their cozy beds, but to their father's surprise, their shoes were always tattered by morning! The king, puzzled and a bit grumpy, announced that any brave prince who could uncover this mystery would be allowed to marry one of his beloved daughters.
Many princes came, determined to stay awake and catch the princesses in the act. But one by one, they plopped down in the grand hall and snoozed soundly, snoring like grumpy bears. They woke up with no memories and didn’t solve the riddle.
One day, a poor soldier returned from his adventures, carrying only his tattered coat and wise advice from an old woman. "Beware of drinks, young man, and pretend to sleep," she had said, handing him a magical cloak that shimmered like morning dew. With a mix of excitement and nerves, the soldier decided to give it a try.
That night, as the eldest princess approached him with a sparkling cup of wine, he remembered the old woman's words. He took a deep breath, pretended to drink, and let out a loud snore. The princess giggled softly, thinking he was fast asleep.
As the clock struck midnight, the room filled with soft creaks, and the twelve princesses quietly tiptoed across the floor, their silk slippers whispering against the ground. The soldier, heart racing, slipped on his cloak and followed them down a winding staircase that glimmered like jewels!
He passed through a magical forest where leaves sparkled like stars, and tiny creatures peeked from behind bushes. Finally, he reached a dark lake where twelve enchanted princes rowed boats, their eyes twinkling with mischief. The soldier hopped into a boat and crossed to a dazzling ballroom lit by thousands of flickering candles. The princesses danced joyfully, their laughter ringing like sweet bells.
Hidden away, the soldier plucked a silver branch and a golden apple as proof of the magical night. When dawn broke, he eagerly returned to the castle and shared his incredible tale. The king was amazed, and with a wave of his hand, the spell was broken! The enchanted princes were freed, and laughter filled the castle once more.
The soldier had stayed awake when others had slept, and he was given his choice of a princess to marry. As joy spread through the castle, a new adventure began for the soldier and his chosen princess, promising a happily ever after.
