The True King of Iran

Akbar & Birbal Tales

A classic tale retold for young readers — full of wit, wisdom, and wonderful surprises.

Once upon a time, in a land where golden deserts sparkled like treasure and mountains touched the sky, there lived a clever man named Birbal. His wisdom was famous far and wide, even reaching the ears of the great King of Iran, who was curious to meet this remarkable man. "A man who can count crows and fill pots with wisdom? I must invite him!" the King declared, his eyes twinkling with delight.

So, the King sent a magnificent invitation to Birbal, decorated with shiny jewels and colorful scrolls. With a heart full of excitement, Birbal packed his bags and set off on a grand adventure, riding his trusty horse through rivers that glimmered like silver and over hills that danced with wildflowers. After many days of travel, he finally arrived at the grand court of Iran, where trumpets blared a joyful TAAAA-RAAAA!

As Birbal stepped into the royal audience hall, he gasped in surprise. Before him sat not one, not two, but FOUR kings, all looking exactly alike! They wore sparkling crowns, shimmering robes, and their beards were as neat as freshly trimmed hedges. The courtiers buzzed with confusion. "How can this be? They look just like each other!" they whispered, scratching their heads.

But Birbal remained calm, his clever mind racing like a whirlwind. He watched the four kings closely, his eyes twinkling with curiosity. The room fell silent, as if the very air was holding its breath. Finally, Birbal stepped forward and bowed deeply to one particular king. "Your Majesty," he said with a grin, "I bring greetings from Emperor Akbar of India!"

The chosen king’s face lit up like the morning sun. "Birbal! You found me! But how did you know?" he asked, his voice warm and inviting. With a knowing smile, Birbal replied, "While the others kept glancing at you, trying to copy your every move, you stood tall and confident, looking straight ahead. A true king walks his own path."

The King of Iran, filled with admiration, leaped from his throne and embraced Birbal. "You are even wiser than they say! Come, let me shower you with gifts from my kingdom!"

And so, Birbal returned home with treasures beyond his dreams, but he carried something even more precious—the understanding that true leaders shine brightest when they trust their own hearts to lead the way.
