The Three Brothers and the Lion

Vikram & Betaal Tales

A spine-tingling Vikram and Betaal riddle — where a brave king must answer or lose everything!

In a shadowy forest where trees whispered secrets and the moonlight danced playfully on the ground, a clever jackal howled into the night, sending shivers through the air. Suddenly, from the mist, emerged a brave hero named Vikram, carrying a mysterious figure wrapped in tattered cloth. Perched atop his shoulder was Betaal, a mischievous spirit who loved to weave stories.

“Gather around, Vikram!” Betaal chirped, his voice bubbling with excitement. “Once, there were three lively Brahmin brothers eager for adventure! They set off into the world to learn from a wise teacher, crossing rivers that sparkled like diamonds and climbing mountains that tickled the clouds.”

After a long journey, they discovered a grand temple glowing with wisdom. Inside, they met a master whose eyes twinkled like stars. He taught them magical secrets: the first brother could piece together scattered bones; the second could wrap them in strong muscles; and the third had the extraordinary ability to breathe life into anything! “Use your gifts wisely,” the master warned, his voice serious.

But as they left the temple, their hearts bubbled with mischief. One sunny day, they stumbled upon the bones and tattered hide of a lion lying still in the forest! “Look what we can do!” said the first brother, excitement sparkling in his eyes. With a swift click, he assembled the bones into a clean skeleton. “My turn!” exclaimed the second brother, covering it in golden fur. The lion looked magnificent!

“Oh, let me give it life!” the third brother cheered, his heart racing. “Wait!” shouted his brothers, but it was too late. With a gentle breath, he awakened the lion. Its eyes flared open, glowing like fiery lanterns, and with a mighty “ROAAARR!” it leaped, sending the brothers tumbling to the ground, lifeless!

The forest fell silent once more, holding its breath. “Now, Vikram,” chuckled Betaal, “who do you think was the greatest fool?”

“The third brother,” Vikram said thoughtfully. “The first two built a dangerous toy, but he brought it to life without thinking of the danger.”

With a whoosh of laughter, Betaal vanished into the night, leaving behind a swirling cloud of magic and a lesson that echoed through the forest forever.
