Tenali Raman Tales

A hilarious Tenali Raman tale where wit, humour, and a sharp mind save the day!

On a warm summer night, when the stars twinkled like sparkling gems in the velvety sky, Tenali Raman sat in his cozy home, lost in a book full of magical adventures. Suddenly, a strange noise broke the calm—rustle, rustle, rustle! The trees stood tall and still, but the bushes were trembling as if they were giggling!

"Thieves!" Tenali murmured with a twinkle in his eye. Instead of feeling scared, he called to his wife, "Dear, did you hear that? We must hide our treasure in the well—it's the safest place!" His wife nodded, her eyes sparkling with excitement, and they hurried to move a heavy wooden chest—CLANK, CLANK, CLANK! The sound echoed through the night, catching the attention of two sneaky thieves hiding nearby.

"Did you hear that splash?" one thief whispered, eyes wide with glee. "A treasure chest full of gold!" All night, the thieves worked hard, pulling up water bucket after bucket from the well, their arms growing tired and sore. SPLASH, HEAVE, POUR! They imagined the gleaming treasure waiting for them.

At dawn, with one last heave, the thieves finally pulled up the chest. With trembling hands, they broke it open, only to find... rocks and bricks! Their faces fell in disbelief, and silence hung thick in the air.

Just then, the back door creaked open. Tenali stepped out, stretching like a happy cat. He blinked at his garden, sparkling with fresh water, plants standing tall and proud. "Oh, thank you for watering my garden!" he exclaimed, spotting the bewildered thieves. “I wanted to do that for weeks! Let me treat you to breakfast!”

The thieves, their hands blistered and hearts heavy with shame, bowed before Tenali. “We’re so sorry! We promise to never steal again!” With a warm smile, he invited them in for a hearty meal. As they enjoyed delicious food, they realized that sometimes, unexpected turns can lead to wonderful surprises, filling their hearts with a lesson they would never forget.
