Every morning, the busy market came alive with excitement as Gajapati, the gentle giant elephant, walked down the cobblestone path. His big, heavy feet made a cheerful THUD, and all the shopkeepers waved at him. Gajapati had a special friend—Mr. Sharma, the tailor. Each day, Mr. Sharma placed a ripe banana on his windowsill, and when Gajapati stretched his long, wiggly trunk through the window, the banana would vanish with a joyful SLURP! Gajapati would bow his majestic head, and Mr. Sharma’s heart would fill with happiness.
But one sunny Tuesday, Mr. Sharma was having a very bad day. A customer was unhappy because her dress was too tight, and another stormed out without paying for his pants! As the sun began to set, Mr. Sharma felt grumpier than a rainy day. When Gajapati came for his banana, Mr. Sharma, in a huff, accidentally pricked Gajapati’s trunk with his needle! The great elephant flinched but didn’t trumpet. Instead, he simply turned and walked away, his feet making a soft THUD on the ground.
An hour later, Gajapati returned, looking different. His trunk was curled tight and swollen, filled with muddy river water! The other shopkeepers watched curiously as Gajapati aimed his trunk right at Mr. Sharma’s window. Then—SPLOOOOOSH! A fountain of thick, brown mud erupted, splattering everywhere! Mr. Sharma gasped in shock as his lovely fabrics and beautiful dresses turned into a muddy mess!
As he stared at the disaster, whispers floated around the market. Mr. Sharma felt a pang of regret in his heart. He realized he had let his anger get the best of him and had hurt his kind friend. From that day forward, he placed not one, but two sweet bananas on the windowsill, and Gajapati accepted them with a joyful trumpet, his trunk reaching in with delight. The sun shone brightly as the friendship between the tailor and the elephant blossomed once more, brighter than ever, in the bustling market.
