In a lively little town in India, there lived a clever man named Birbal. His neighbor, Karim, was a curious fellow with a peculiar obsession: he wanted to know his future! Every week, he invited fortune-tellers to his home, his eyes sparkling with hope and fear as he listened closely to their every word.
One sunny morning, as Birbal sipped his steaming cup of chai, he heard a loud CRASH! Karim was shouting angrily, chasing a fortune-teller out of his gate. “GO AWAY, YOU CHEAT! NEVER COME BACK!” The fortune-teller dashed off, trembling like a leaf caught in a storm. Intrigued, Birbal hurried over to see what had happened.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, noticing the fortune-teller shaking like a jellybean. “What did you tell him?”
“I only read his palm honestly!” the fortune-teller stuttered. “I said he would outlive all his relatives and be left all alone…”
Birbal stroked his chin thoughtfully. “Ah, you spoke the truth, but it was like serving bitter medicine with no candy afterward. Let’s sweeten that up!” He leaned in and whispered a clever plan.
The next morning, a hunched old man with a crooked cane tapped his way to Karim’s door. TAP. TAP. TAP. Karim opened the door, curiosity sparkling in his eyes. “Who are you, old man?”
“Oh, what a MAGNIFICENT man you are!” the old stranger exclaimed, his voice smooth like honey. “May I read your palm, great sir?”
Flattered, Karim invited him in. The fortune-teller, now in disguise, examined Karim’s palm and gasped, “What EXTRAORDINARY luck you have! You are so strong you will OUTLIVE all your relatives!”
Karim’s eyes widened, and a brilliant smile blossomed on his face. “REMARKABLE!” he cheered, joy bubbling like a fizzy drink. He rushed inside, returning with a heavy bag of gold coins that CLINKED with delight. “Please accept this and visit me anytime!”
Later, Birbal found the fortune-teller, still astonished. “But Sir! We told him the SAME THING as yesterday! How was that different?”
Birbal chuckled, “You told him the truth about being alone. I helped you wrap that truth in a beautiful gift. It’s all about how we share our stories!”
As they both laughed heartily, they knew they had discovered a treasure that day, one even more valuable than gold.
