On a bright and sunny morning, a young Stag trotted to a sparkling spring. The water shimmered like a crystal mirror, and as he peeked in, he gasped in delight at his own reflection. His antlers were magnificent, wide and branching like a crown of silver, glinting in the sunlight. “Oh, look at my splendid antlers!” he exclaimed, his voice singing with pride. “No creature in this forest is as grand as I!”
But when he gazed down, his excitement turned to gloom. His legs were long and slim, looking plain next to his glorious antlers. “Oh dear,” he sighed, feeling a little sad. “What a pity! My beautiful antlers shine up high, but my legs look so silly below.”
Just then, a loud snap of a twig made his heart leap! A fierce hunting dog burst out from the bushes, and soon he heard more paws crashing through the leaves. In a flash, the Stag forgot about his reflection and bolted away, his heart thumping like a drum. Those legs he had scorned became his greatest friend! They raced over rocks, leaped through ferns, and carried him faster than he ever imagined. “Run, legs, run!” he called, as the barking dogs chased him.
He dashed deeper into the dark, shadowy forest, where branches hung low like a protective curtain. But just as he thought he was safe, disaster struck! His beautiful antlers got caught in some branches above. “Oh no!” he gasped, struggling to break free. The branches twisted around him like tricky vines, and the barking grew louder!
In that moment of panic, the Stag realized that his slim legs were his only hope. “If only I had valued my legs as much as my antlers!” he cried. With all his strength, he pulled. Snap! A branch broke free, and with a mighty leap, the Stag escaped just in time, as the dogs burst through the bushes behind him.
Breathless and shaken, he sprinted away, his heart racing with new wisdom. Glancing back at the tangled branches, he felt a warm glow of gratitude for his long, slim legs. No longer would he see them as silly sticks; they had saved his life when danger lurked. From that day forward, the Stag joyfully bounded through the forest, embracing not just beauty but the true gifts that made him strong.
