The Salt Mill at the Bottom of the Sea

Legendary Tales

A legendary tale of heroes, gods, and quests that have echoed through the ages.

Once upon a time, in a land filled with gentle hills and sparkling streams, there lived two brothers, Rolf and Finn. Rolf, the older brother, resided in a grand house piled high with golden grains but held a heart as cold as winter frost. Finn, the younger brother, lived in a small, cozy cottage. His heart was warm and bright, and he would share his last crust of bread with anyone who knocked on his door.

One chilly winter day, Finn found himself with nothing to eat. As snowflakes twirled in the air, he ventured into the towering mountains, hoping for a sprinkle of magic. Suddenly, he spotted a cave shimmering like a treasure chest. Inside, a wise old dwarf with a beard like fluffy clouds greeted him. "I have a special gift for you," the dwarf said, handing Finn a small wooden mill with sparkling stone wheels. "This can grind anything you wish, but remember the magic word—HOLLA."

Finn rushed home, his heart racing with excitement. That night, he whispered, “Grind bread!” and, WHIRRRR! Delicious, warm bread tumbled out! Finn shared it with everyone in the village, filling their hearts with joy. Soon, he became the beloved hero of the land.

But Rolf, filled with jealousy, sneaked into Finn’s home under the cloak of night. He snatched the magical mill and raced to the docks, dreaming of riches. “Grind SALT!” he shouted as he loaded it onto his ship. WHIRRRR! Salt poured out like shimmering snowflakes, piling high and higher. Rolf danced with glee, but forgot the magic stopping word.

Suddenly, the sailors screamed, “STOP! TURN IT OFF!” Panic filled the air as the ship began to tilt dangerously. Rolf shouted every word he could think of, but nothing worked. With a loud CRRRACK, the ship splintered, and salt tumbled overboard like a glittering waterfall. Rolf and his greedy mill sank into the deep blue sea, never to be seen again.

Meanwhile, Finn, with love and hard work, built a new mill with his own hands. As he ground honest flour, the sweet scent of baked goods filled the air. He shared his treats with friends and neighbors, laughing and celebrating life together. Finn lived happily ever after, surrounded by kindness and warmth, proving that true treasure lies in the joy of sharing with others.
