The Kind-Hearted Robber

Vikram & Betaal Tales

A spine-tingling Vikram and Betaal riddle — where a brave king must answer or lose everything!

The night was dark and mysterious, with twinkling stars peeking through fluffy clouds. Vikram tiptoed through a quiet burial ground, the air sweet with the scent of sandalwood. Suddenly, a chill ran down his spine as he sensed something lurking nearby.

Long ago, a gentle minister named Aditya had a heart full of love for a beautiful girl named Preethi. Day after day, he admired her from afar but was too shy to speak his feelings. Just when he finally mustered the courage, he learned that Preethi’s father had arranged for her to marry someone else. Aditya’s heart sank.

On her wedding night, dressed in sparkling jewels that shimmered like stars, Preethi slipped away from her celebration. She needed to say goodbye to Aditya just once. But as she quietly made her way through the trees, a shadow leaped out—a robber with mischievous eyes! “Hand over the jewels!” he growled, his voice echoing like thunder.

“Please!” Preethi pleaded, her heart racing. “Let me see someone. I promise I’ll return!” The robber, taken aback by the hope shining in her eyes, stepped aside, allowing her to pass.

Preethi rushed to Aditya’s door, knocking excitedly. “Aditya! It’s me!” But to her surprise, he opened the door just a crack, then quickly shut it. “You are married to someone else now,” he said coldly, leaving her heartbroken.

As tears streamed down her cheeks, the robber watched her sorrow. He listened as she shared her story of love and loss. With an unexpected twist, he said, “Keep your jewels. I’ll walk you home.”

As they strolled together, kindness wrapped around Preethi like a warm hug. But when they reached her home, her husband, seeing her sadness and the jewels, turned her away. Feeling abandoned, she walked to a sparkling lake, its waters shimmering like diamonds under the moonlight. With a heavy heart, she stepped in and vanished beneath the surface.

Vikram felt a wave of sadness wash over him. He thought deeply about the bravery on that dark night. The robber, often seen as a villain, chose to show kindness when others would not. In a world where reputation mattered, he protected Preethi’s dignity without asking for anything in return.
