The Rainbow Serpent

Legendary Tales

A legendary tale of heroes, gods, and quests that have echoed through the ages.

In the very beginning, the land of Australia was as flat as a pancake—silent and empty, waiting for a spark of magic. But deep beneath the ground, something extraordinary was waking up! It was the Rainbow Serpent, a dazzling creature whose scales sparkled with every color you could imagine—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet! She was so enormous that when she stretched, it felt like the earth itself was tickled!

One sunny day, the Rainbow Serpent yawned and pushed her magnificent body up through the layers of the earth with a mighty CRACK! Suddenly, the ground shook, and the world began to change. WHOOOOSH! Deep valleys appeared where she slithered, and SCRRRRAPE! Tall mountains shot up like giants greeting the sky. Lakes filled with fresh, shimmering water bloomed wherever she paused, and rivers bubbled with joy as they raced down the mountainsides.

With a playful smile, the Rainbow Serpent called to the frogs, who had been holding all the water in their round bellies. “Come to me!” she giggled, tickling their sides. With a BOOM of laughter—HAHAHA!—the frogs let loose torrents of water, creating sparkling waterfalls that danced in the sunlight!

Life sprang forth! Trees burst from the ground with a SPROOOOOT! Animals peeked out, and birds filled the air with sweet songs. But the Rainbow Serpent was wise, too. She made important rules for everyone to follow: respect the land and care for all living things. Those who listened became part of her beautiful story, while those who didn’t turned into stones and hills, standing tall to remind others.

And even now, the Rainbow Serpent watches over her creation from the depths of waterholes, gliding gracefully through rainbows after storms, reminding us all to cherish the magic of our world. So, next time you see a rainbow, remember it’s her way of saying, “Keep the land and all its creatures safe!”
