In a sunny farmyard, an old stone well stood tall, its mossy walls hiding secrets of long ago. Mama Dog always told her playful puppies, “Stay away from the well! It’s deep and dark, and it could be dangerous!” The little puppies nodded, eyes wide with wonder. But one adventurous pup, Biscuit, couldn’t help but feel drawn to the well. “What could be so scary?” he thought. “Moms always make things sound worse!”
While his siblings chased butterflies and rolled in the grass, Biscuit found himself curiously tip-tapping toward the well. He climbed onto the edge and peeked into the cool, shadowy depths. Suddenly, a glimmer caught his eye, sparkling like magic! “Wow!” he gasped, his eyes growing wide.
Just then, a playful little puppy popped up from below, looking just like him! “Grrr!” Biscuit growled back, and the puppy mirrored him perfectly. Filled with excitement, Biscuit barked a joyful, “WOOF!” and the mystery puppy barked back! Leaning closer, eager to play, the ground under Biscuit wobbled. “Whoa!” he squeaked, losing his balance.
Before he knew it, WHOOSH! SPLASH! He tumbled into the icy water below! Panic gripped him as he paddled, barking for help. The sound echoed, but no one came. Just when he thought all was lost, the farmer heard his cries! He quickly tied a sturdy bucket to a long rope and lowered it down. Biscuit hopped in and was pulled up, dripping and shivering.
Mama Dog rushed over, worry in her eyes. She licked him to warm him up, and then said gently, “There was no puppy down there, dear. That was your reflection. You must listen to me when I say something is dangerous.”
Biscuit felt a twinge of sadness as he realized how close he’d come to trouble. From that day on, he played happily with his siblings, understanding that sometimes, listening to those who love you is the bravest adventure of all.
