High atop a towering, rocky mountain, where the sun sparkled like diamonds and the sweet songs of birds filled the air, lived a brave princess named Irene. She was curious and loved adventures. One rainy afternoon, she decided to explore the highest tower of her castle. Her heart raced with excitement as she climbed the winding staircase. What wonders awaited her at the top?
When she finally reached the very top, she noticed a door she had never seen before. With a gentle push, she opened it to find a warm light spilling into the room. There stood a lovely old woman with long, shimmering silver hair that glowed like moonlight. “I am your great-great-grandmother,” the woman said with a kind smile. “I’ve been waiting for you. This thread,” she said, placing something sparkling in Irene’s hand, “is magical and will always guide you safely home, even in the darkest times.”
Meanwhile, deep within the mountain, a boy named Curdie worked in the dark mines. His ears perked up as he heard a dreadful sound—scratching and hissing! The goblins were coming, planning to kidnap Princess Irene! Curdie knew their two big weaknesses: they hated singing and had soft feet.
That night, the mountain trembled with a mighty RUMBLE! CRASH! Irene clutched her glowing thread and ran through dark tunnels. “This way, this way!” it seemed to whisper. Behind her, Curdie took a deep breath and sang as loud as he could, “LA LA LAAAAAA!” His beautiful voice echoed, sending the goblins into a frenzy. With mighty stomps, he kicked at their soft feet, making them howl in fright!
In a fit of rage, the goblin king sent water roaring through the tunnels, but Curdie had warned the other miners, and they fled to safety. The goblins, panicking, scurried back into the shadows, leaving only silence behind.
At last, Irene emerged from the tunnels, the thread still glowing brightly. Curdie stood beside her, panting but proud. “How did you trust the thread when you couldn’t see it?” he asked, admiration sparkling in his eyes. Irene smiled warmly. “Sometimes you just have to believe in what you can’t see.”
Together, they laughed, knowing they had faced the shadows and emerged victorious, their courage lighting the way home.
