In a peaceful village surrounded by gentle hills, lived a kind old bamboo cutter named Takashi. Each day before the sun rose, he wandered into the tall, green bamboo forest, carrying his shiny saw. For many years, his life was simple and steady—until one magical morning changed everything.
As Takashi walked through the misty woods, he spotted a curious, shimmering light coming from a tall bamboo stalk. His heart raced with excitement as he bent down to look closer. With a careful chop, he opened the bamboo, and to his astonishment, a tiny baby girl appeared, glowing like a star! Her twinkling eyes sparkled with joy, and Takashi hugged her tightly, naming her Kaguya-hime, or "Shining Princess."
As days turned into weeks, Kaguya-hime grew faster than a flower blooming in spring. She became a breathtaking young woman, and people traveled from far and wide just to catch a glimpse of her beauty. Soon, five handsome princes, each more magnificent than the last, rode into the village, eager to win her heart. But Kaguya-hime, with a gentle smile, set each one a seemingly impossible task—a magical island, a jeweled branch, and even a robe made from fire-rat fur!
As the princes failed one by one, even the mighty Emperor was enchanted by her charm. But when he asked for her hand, Kaguya-hime sighed, saying, "I am not of this world." That night, as the full moon rose, she shared her secret with her parents: she had come from the Moon, and soon, she must return.
Suddenly, a cold, bright light filled the night sky! Celestial beings in flowing robes appeared, and the brave warriors sent by the Emperor dropped their weapons in wonder. With tears in her eyes, Kaguya-hime hugged her parents tightly, whispering sweet words of love. As she donned a heavenly robe, a calmness washed over her, and with one last, loving glance, she floated up into the moonlit sky, vanishing into the stars.
Takashi and his wife held each other close, their hearts aching yet full of love. They looked up at the glowing moon, knowing that Kaguya-hime had returned to where she truly belonged, their hearts forever touched by her light.
