The Prince and the Two Snakes

Panchatantra Tales

An ancient Panchatantra tale of clever animals, cunning tricks, and wisdom that has lasted thousands of years.

In a magical kingdom far away, a wise king named Devashakti had a son, a young prince who was as pale as a ghost and as thin as a wilting flower. No matter how many potions the palace doctors brewed, nothing helped him. Unbeknownst to everyone, a tiny snake had made a cozy home in the prince’s tummy, causing all his troubles!

One starry night, feeling tired and sad, the prince slipped out of the grand palace and wandered through mystical forests, finally reaching a distant kingdom. By a twinkling temple, he lived a simple life, relying on the kindness of villagers. This kingdom had two beautiful princesses. The first princess was always bright and cheerful, saying, “Father, your blessings are my joy!” But the second princess was wise and thoughtful, replying, “Father, we reap what we sow.” This made their father furious! “You will marry the first stranger you meet!” he declared.

Soon, the ministers found the thin, young prince resting peacefully by the temple. The kind-hearted princess welcomed him with a warm smile, seeing the goodness in his heart. Each day, they learned about each other, and their friendship blossomed like flowers in the spring sunshine.

One hot afternoon, as the prince napped under a shady tree, a curious scene unfolded! A snake slithered out of the prince’s mouth just as another snake crawled from a nearby anthill. They began to argue fiercely! “Why do you bother that poor prince?” asked the anthill snake angrily. “And why do you guard your useless gold?” hissed the snake from the prince’s belly.

Listening closely, the princess's eyes widened with a brilliant idea! That evening, she prepared a thick bowl of mustard-seed soup and lovingly fed it to her husband. With a loud POP, the snake vanished, and the prince awoke, stronger and healthier than ever!

But the adventure wasn’t finished! The princess hurried to the anthill, heated oil until it sizzled, and poured it inside. Suddenly, two shining pots of gold burst forth from the earth, sparkling like stars!

With hearts full of love and hands overflowing with treasure, the prince and princess returned home, ready for new adventures. Their story was just beginning, filled with magic and happiness for all!
