One bright and sunny morning in a busy kingdom, the clever minister Chatur Pandit burst into the grand court, cradling a shiny golden cage. Inside was a peacock unlike any other! It was a dazzling red, glowing like a fiery sunset. The courtiers gasped in wonder, and the king’s eyes sparkled with delight. “What a treasure!” he exclaimed. “Reward this man with a hundred gold coins!” The sound of clinking coins echoed as they filled Chatur Pandit’s greedy hands.
But in a cozy corner of the court, Tenali Raman, the kingdom’s wisest man, furrowed his brow. “A red peacock? In the wild? That sounds suspicious!” he thought. With a twinkle in his eye, he approached the king. “May I have two weeks to uncover the truth?” The king nodded, intrigued.
Instead of searching the jungle, Tenali sent his spies to the shadowy alleys of the city. In just three days, they found a nervous painter with red paint on his fingers. “I have a special job for you!” Tenali winked. “Paint me ten more red peacocks!” The painter agreed, and soon, the court buzzed with excitement.
When the two weeks were up, Tenali marched in with not one, but TEN splendid red peacocks strutting behind him! The king cheered, “Bravo, Tenali! Have a thousand gold coins!” But Tenali smiled slyly, requesting just a bucket of water. The king raised an eyebrow, puzzled.
In a flash, Tenali splashed the water on one peacock, and to everyone’s amazement, the red paint washed away like magic! Drip, drip, drip — the peacock fluffed its feathers and revealed a beautiful blue-green bird! Chatur Pandit turned as red as the paint, and the court erupted in whispers of surprise.
The king roared with laughter, realizing he had been tricked in good spirits. He decided to banish Chatur Pandit for a month for his greed. As the refreshing monsoon rains poured over the kingdom, each drop washed away the false colors of the remaining peacocks, revealing their true, stunning feathers. The kingdom shimmered with joy and laughter, celebrating the beauty of what was beneath the surface.
