The Noblest Man in the Palace

Vikram & Betaal Tales

A spine-tingling Vikram and Betaal riddle — where a brave king must answer or lose everything!

A cool breeze danced through the tall, whispering trees, making Vikram stop in his tracks. The night sky was a deep, mysterious blanket of darkness when a playful voice floated out from the shadows. "Let me tell you a tale from the magical kingdom of Ghosla!" It was Betaal, a cheeky spirit known for spinning stories about bravery and wisdom.

Once upon a time in Ghosla, there lived a clever young man named Aravinda. He was famous for his quick thinking and sharp wit. One day, he decided to visit the king dressed as an old, bent man, his back hunched and his voice quavering like a rustling leaf. As he spoke in riddles about a crumbling house and friends who had vanished, the wise king listened closely, realizing that these tales whispered secrets of old age. Suddenly, with a flick of his wrist, Aravinda revealed his true youthful self! The king’s eyes sparkled with surprise and admiration, and he appointed Aravinda as his Minister of Palace Affairs.

But one fateful night, as shadows danced under the silver moonlight, Aravinda heard soft cries from the courtyard. When he peeked outside, his heart skipped a beat! The beautiful goddess Lakshmi stood there, her face shimmering with tears. "Oh, dear Aravinda," she sobbed, "wealth will soon leave this kingdom! Only a loyal soul can save it by sacrificing his son to the fierce goddess Kali." Hidden behind a pillar, the king felt a shiver run through him.

With a heavy heart, Aravinda rushed home and shared the goddess's message with his wife. Together, they made the hardest choice any parent could face. Hand in hand, they led their two children to the temple, their hearts trembling. As Aravinda placed his son on the altar, a clang echoed! His brave daughter dashed forward, love for her brother shining in her eyes. She grabbed a sword, and in that moment, her mother and then Aravinda rushed to join her in a powerful embrace, each willing to sacrifice everything.

The king stepped from the shadows, unable to bear the sight of such love and courage. He fell beside them, overwhelmed by their bravery. In that moonlit temple, a story of pure love unfolded, where actions spoke louder than words. Each heart shone brightly, and the king knew he could never forget the family’s selfless choice as the night wrapped them all in its magic.
