In a sunny village filled with laughter, a kind-hearted Brahmin named Dev Sharma and his gentle wife welcomed a beautiful baby boy. On that very same day, a tiny mongoose named Momo was born, but sadly, his mother couldn't stay with him. Dev's wife, with her big heart, found the little mongoose all alone and decided to care for him just like her own son. From that moment on, Momo and the baby grew up together, sharing warm milk, playful splashes in the tub, and cozy naps, their laughter ringing through the house.
Momo was quick and cheeky, always darting around and creating joyful mischief. But in the back of Dev's wife’s mind, a tiny worry stirred. “He may look sweet now,” she thought, “but he is still wild. I must be careful.”
One day, while fetching water from the well, she asked Dev to watch over the baby. But distracted by his own thoughts, Dev wandered off, leaving Momo and the baby alone in the house. As the sun began to set, a sinister silence fell, and out from the shadows slithered a wicked cobra with glimmering eyes, creeping towards the sleeping child.
Momo sensed danger, his heart racing like a drum. “I have to protect my brother!” he thought, and with a brave leap, he charged at the cobra. A wild battle erupted—fur flew, and the room filled with hisses and growls as Momo fought fiercely. After a thrilling struggle, the cobra lay defeated, and Momo, though scratched and weary, stood proud.
Just then, Dev’s wife returned, her arms full of water pots. But when she saw Momo rushing toward her, covered in blood, fear washed over her. In a panic, she threw a pot, CRASH! Momo crumpled to the floor. Rushing inside, she found her baby sleeping soundly, unaware of the danger. It was only then that she saw the defeated cobra.
Kneeling beside Momo, tears streamed down her cheeks as she realized what she had done. She had let fear shatter the bond of love they shared. Embracing Momo, she learned that love must always be met with care, for in a moment of panic, one could lose the very heart of their home.
