The Three Clever Sons

Vikram & Betaal Tales

A spine-tingling Vikram and Betaal riddle — where a brave king must answer or lose everything!

In the vibrant city of Kanchanpur, where the sun painted the rooftops gold, lived a kind-hearted merchant named Suvarnadatta. Known for his dazzling treasures, he was cherished by all. But as twilight whispered secrets, Suvarnadatta lay on his bed, clutching a shiny golden key that sparkled like the stars above. This key unlocked a vault filled with riches, but he could only give it to one of his three sons: brave Amar, clever Biram, and gentle little Chetan.

With a twinkle in his eye, Suvarnadatta proposed a challenge. “Fill this empty room before the sun sets, but you can only use what you have!”

Amar, full of confidence, rushed to the market and bought a cartload of hay, making a clattering noise as he returned. He stuffed the room with hay, but when he looked around, half of the room still lay empty. “Oh no!” he cried, realizing he had spent his last coin.

Next came Biram, the witty middle son. He filled the room with soft, fluffy feathers, buying them in heaps. “Look at this!” he laughed as feathers danced in the air. But when he finished, there were still empty corners. Every coin was gone!

Finally, little Chetan quietly walked to the market. With his single silver coin, he bought a tiny candle and a box of matches. Some people whispered, “Just a candle?” But Chetan smiled. As the sun dipped low, he lit the match, and with a soft flicker, the candle glowed to life. Bright, warm light filled the room, chasing away the darkness and illuminating every inch!

Suvarnadatta beamed with pride as he handed the golden key to Chetan. “You have shown me what it means to fill a space,” he said, his heart swelling with love for his youngest son. In a nearby shadow, the mischievous spirit Betaal cackled, but brave Vikram, who carried Betaal on his back, shook his head. The merchant understood that true wealth was not about stuff, but about the light we bring into the world.

As stars twinkled overhead, the lesson of the golden key glimmered in the hearts of everyone who heard the tale.
