Once upon a time, in a lively little village, there was a boastful miller who wanted to impress the mighty king. One bright morning, he bragged, “My daughter can spin straw into pure gold!” The king, with gleaming eyes and a greedy grin, took the miller's daughter to his castle, where a huge room was filled to the brim with straw. “Turn it all into gold by morning, or you will lose your head!” he thundered, slamming the door behind her.
The girl sat on the floor, panic rising in her chest like a balloon ready to burst. Just then, a chilly breeze swirled through the room, and a tiny figure appeared! He was no bigger than a mushroom, wearing a pointed hat and a long beard. “What will you give me if I spin this straw into gold?” he asked with a cheeky smile. Desperate, she offered her sparkling necklace.
With a swift motion, the little man sat at the spinning wheel and spun, WHIRR, WHIRR, WHIRR! By morning, the room shone with golden thread! The king was delighted, but his greed grew. He locked her in a larger room of straw the next night. She gave the little man her shiny ring, and again, he spun the straw into gold.
On the third night, the girl had nothing left to offer. The little man grinned slyly. “Promise me your first child when you become queen!” Terrified, she agreed. Time passed, and she became queen and had a precious baby. But one day, the little man returned, demanding what she promised.
“Guess my name within three days, or the child is mine!” he cackled. She sent messengers racing far and wide, but no one could find his name. On the third day, a messenger rushed in, breathless. “I found him dancing in the woods, singing: Rumpelstiltskin is my name!”
That evening, the little man appeared, eyes twinkling with mischief. “Is your name... Ferdinand?” she asked, her heart pounding. “No!” he laughed. “Is it... Caspar?” she tried next, and his laughter echoed. With one last hopeful guess, she exclaimed, “Could it be... RUMPELSTILTSKIN?”
The room fell silent, and the little man turned bright purple. With an angry stomp, he crashed right through the floor and vanished in a puff of smoke, leaving behind a gentle breeze. The queen held her baby tight, feeling a wave of joy. She had outsmarted the little man, discovering that with bravery and determination, even the hardest challenges could be conquered.
