In the lively city of Vijayanagara, where colorful stalls buzzed with laughter and the air danced with the sweet smell of spices, a clever fellow named Tenali Raman strolled into town with a rumbling belly. His dreams soared higher than the tallest clouds, and his heart sparkled with excitement. As he approached the magnificent palace, a grumpy guard, as tall as a mountain, blocked his way.
“Halt! No entry without permission!” the guard growled, his eyes narrowing like a cat ready to pounce. Tenali, quick as a flash, grinned and said, “If you let me in, I’ll share half of whatever the king gives me!” The guard, intrigued, agreed with a nod.
But as Tenali stepped further, another guard crossed his arms, demanding the same deal. “You’ll need to share half with me too!” he insisted. “Deal!” Tenali replied, his heart thumping with joy as he entered the grand hall.
Inside, the king, looking as stormy as a rainy day, roared, “FIFTY LASHES!” The guards raised their canes, ready to strike, but Tenali stayed calm, folding his hands like a blooming flower. “Oh, mighty King, thank you for your generous gift! May I share it with my friends who helped me?”
The king raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “Friends?” he repeated. “Yes, the guards at the gate!” Tenali beamed. Suddenly, the king’s smile turned mischievous. “Then I shall give you ONE HUNDRED LASHES! Fifty for each guard!” The guards gasped, their faces turning white as snow.
As the sound of CRACK! CRACK! echoed through the hall, the guards howled in pain, wishing they hadn’t been so greedy. Meanwhile, Tenali walked confidently, thinking of a clever plan to escape his fate. The guards, still yelping, marched him to the river, but Tenali’s mind was racing with ideas to turn the situation around.
With each step, he felt the magic of his cleverness spark like fireworks. By the time they reached the river, Tenali had a brilliant idea that would make the greedy guards think twice about their demands.
And so, as the sun glimmered on the water, the tale of Tenali and the greedy guards would be shared for ages, reminding everyone that sometimes, wanting too much can lead to unexpected surprises.
