Tenali Raman was in a real pickle, and not the yummy kind! King Krishnadevaraya was in a mischievous mood and had decided to play a trick on Tenali. He ordered his guards to take him to a deep trench where an elephant was waiting to stomp him! The guards chuckled as they dragged Tenali, pushing him into the dirt until only his head peeked out like a turtle in its shell. “Say your prayers!” they cackled, shoveling dirt around him.
Just when Tenali thought he was stuck forever, he heard a soft SHUFFLE, SHUFFLE, SHUFFLE. A washerman appeared, hunched over a mountain of colorful clothes. His back was so curved that he could barely see where he was going. Suddenly, he spotted Tenali’s head. “AAAAAH!” the washerman screamed, jumping back as if he’d seen a ghost.
“Hello there!” Tenali called cheerfully, his smile as bright as the sun. “What happened to you?” the washerman asked, eyes wide in surprise. “Oh, I’m just trying a new way to fix my hunchback!” Tenali explained, chuckling. “A wise man told me to bury myself for twelve hours, and I’ll be as straight as a ruler! My wife will dig me out shortly!”
The washerman’s eyes sparkled with hope. “Let me help you!” he shouted, dropping his heavy bundle of clothes. With a flurry of dirt flying everywhere, he clawed at the earth until Tenali sprang up, stretching and twisting. “It worked!” he cheered, hugging the astonished washerman. “Now it’s your turn! Jump in, and I’ll help!”
“But my clothes!” the washerman protested, glancing back at his precious laundry. “I’ll deliver them for you!” Tenali winked, excitement bubbling in his chest. With a leap of faith, the washerman jumped into the trench, trusting Tenali completely.
Meanwhile, the guards thundered back, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, shaking the ground with the heavy footsteps of the elephant. They were stunned to find the washerman blinking up at them, confused. “Where’s Raman?” they shouted in disbelief.
As for Tenali? He was already inside the palace, cleverly disguised as a washerman, delivering laundry and having fun with a straightened back. With a sprinkle of wit and a dash of quick thinking, Tenali had turned his troubles into a hilarious adventure, proving that sometimes a clever mind can help you escape even the stickiest situations!
