Once upon a time, in a bright and sunny yard, there lived a cheerful Little Red Hen who loved to explore. One day, while digging in the golden dirt, she spotted a shiny grain of wheat sparkling like a treasure under the sun. Her heart danced with joy! “This could become warm, fluffy bread!” she chirped, imagining the delicious smell filling the yard.
Flapping her wings in excitement, she called out to her friends. The lazy Cat was stretched out in a sunny spot, yawning like a big fluffy cloud, while the sleepy Dog snoozed in the shade, dreaming of chasing butterflies. The Goose was waddling about, looking very busy doing absolutely nothing.
“Who will help me plant this wheat?” the Little Red Hen asked, her eyes gleaming with hope.
“Not I,” yawned the Cat, rolling onto his back.
“Not I,” sighed the Dog, flipping over with a soft grunt.
“Not I,” murmured the Goose, barely lifting her head.
“Then I will do it myself!” declared the Little Red Hen, puffing out her feathers with determination. She planted the wheat seeds and watered them carefully, watching them grow tall and golden under the bright sun.
Days passed, and when the wheat was ready, she excitedly asked, “Who will help me harvest the wheat?”
“Not I,” yawned the Cat again.
“Not I,” sighed the Dog, still half-asleep.
“Not I,” said the Goose, waddling slower than a turtle.
“Then I will do it myself!” announced the Little Red Hen. She harvested the wheat, threshed it, and carried it all the way to the mill. With a sprinkle of magic and a little help from her heart, she turned the wheat into flour, mixed the dough, and placed it in the hot oven.
As the bread baked, a scrumptious smell filled the air, swirling around like a happy dance! The Cat woke up with a jump, the Dog blinked his eyes wide, and the Goose hurried over, flapping her wings.
“Who will help me EAT this delicious bread?” asked the Little Red Hen, twinkling with delight.
“I WILL!” cried the Cat, suddenly full of energy.
“I WILL!” barked the Dog, bouncing up.
“I WILL!” honked the Goose, excitedly waddling closer.
The Little Red Hen smiled sweetly but shook her head. “No, you will not.” With pride, she took her warm, golden bread inside and enjoyed every crumb all by herself.
That night, while the Cat, Dog, and Goose lay in bed with rumbly tummies, they thought about the Little Red Hen and her tasty bread. The seasons changed, and when the Little Red Hen found another shiny grain of wheat, she called out again. This time, a chorus of eager voices rang out, “I will!”
Together, they learned that working as a team made the reward even sweeter, filling their hearts with joy as they shared the journey.
