The Tale of the Two Friends

Vikram & Betaal Tales

A spine-tingling Vikram and Betaal riddle — where a brave king must answer or lose everything!

The moon shone brightly in the starry sky, casting a magical glow over the quiet land. In this enchanted night, Prince Vikram felt his heart thump like a drum as he stood beneath the silver light. Suddenly, he met a playful spirit named Betaal, who twinkled with mischief. “Let me tell you a tale of friendship, love, and a surprising twist!” he exclaimed, his voice dancing like the wind through the trees.

Once upon a time, in the lively city of Benares, there lived a brave young prince named Rohit. He was handsome and kind, and his heart was full of love for Sunita, a beautiful girl who was the daughter of a washerwoman. Little did Rohit know that his best friend, Amit, secretly shared his feelings for Sunita, hiding them like a treasure in his heart.

Rohit loved Sunita so much that he made a promise at the temple of the fierce Goddess Kali: “If I can marry her, I will give my life under the full moon!” His father, the king, gladly agreed to their wedding, which was filled with laughter and colorful flowers.

But as the full moon rose high in the sky, a heavy silence fell upon the palace. Rohit slipped away from the joyful celebration, carrying a weighty secret. He entered the temple, picked up a sacred sword, and—oh no!—he kept his dreadful vow. Amit, feeling a wave of sorrow, rushed in to find his friend lying still. Heartbroken, he grabbed the sword, ready to join Rohit.

Just then, Sunita arrived, searching for them. When she saw the scene, her heart shattered, and she too prepared to follow them into darkness. But then, a blinding light filled the room! The magnificent Goddess Kali appeared, her eyes sparkling with kindness. “Your love is powerful!” she proclaimed, and with a wave of her hand, she brought them all back to life!

However, a curious twist had occurred! Rohit’s head somehow rested on Amit’s body, while Amit’s head sat on Rohit’s body! Vikram couldn't help but chuckle at the funny sight before him. “Now tell me, dear Vikram,” Betaal said with a sly grin, “who is Sunita’s true husband?”

Vikram pondered for a moment, a smile spreading across his face. “The one with Rohit’s head is Sunita’s true husband! It’s not just about our bodies; it’s the love and memories inside that matter most.”

With a delighted clap, Betaal vanished into the night, leaving Vikram with a heart full of wonder and a lesson that would glow like the moonlight forever.
