King Midas and the Golden Touch

Legendary Tales

A legendary tale of heroes, gods, and quests that have echoed through the ages.

Once upon a time in a sparkling kingdom, there lived a king named Midas who adored gold more than anything else! His treasure room was enormous, filled with shining coins that twinkled like stars when the sunlight poured in. Every day, King Midas would play with his golden coins, making delightful sounds — CLINK! CLINK! CLINK! No one dared to interrupt him during his "coin time," for Midas cherished his treasures above all.

One sunny morning, a magical figure appeared in a swirl of shimmering light. It was Dionysus, the joyful god of wine! With a playful grin, he said, "King Midas, I can grant you one wish. What is it you desire most?" Without a second thought, Midas exclaimed, "I want everything I touch to turn to gold!" Dionysus raised his eyebrows but nodded, saying, "Very well!" With a loud SNAP, the magic sparkled to life.

Midas raced around the palace, touching everything in sight! The grand doors turned to gleaming gold with a joyful TING! The rosebush swayed and sparkled, its blossoms now golden treasures. TING! TING! TING! He twirled like a whirlwind, laughing with glee. But then came breakfast, and everything changed. He reached for grapes — TING! — now hard and cold gold! Panic bubbled in his chest as he took a piece of bread — TING! — oh no, it was gold too! When he raised a goblet of water, it became liquid gold, scorching him!

Suddenly, a small voice called, "Father? Can I come in?" It was his beloved daughter! She rushed in and hugged him tightly, but in a horrifying moment, she turned into a beautiful golden statue! Midas gasped, his heart aching with sorrow. "No! I want her back!" Tears streamed down his face, turning to gold.

Just then, Dionysus appeared again, compassion in his eyes. "Wash in the river Pactolus and remember what truly matters." Hope ignited in Midas’s heart as he raced to the river, splashing into its cool waters. Emerging shivering yet determined, he picked up a stone, and it stayed just a stone—warm and familiar!

Rushing back to the palace, he grabbed his daughter’s hand. Her fingers curled around his, warm and alive! From that day on, King Midas shared his riches with his people, filling his palace with laughter and love. He discovered the greatest treasure wasn’t gold, but the joy of holding his family close.
