On a scorching summer day, when the sun glimmered like a giant golden coin above, a clever fox roamed near an ancient stone well. The air felt warm and wavy, as if sprinkled with magic. Suddenly, as the fox pranced along, his paw slipped on the mossy edge, and WHOOSH! Down he tumbled, bouncing off the cool stones until he landed with a soft THUD at the bottom. The well wasn’t too deep, but it was steep and slippery, making it impossible for him to climb back up.
As the sun climbed higher, the fox looked around in a daze and realized he was stuck! Just when he began to worry, he heard a gentle rustling above. Looking up, he saw a curious goat peering over the edge, her bright eyes shining with wonder. “Hello down there!” she bleated, her voice echoing through the well’s cool darkness. The fox’s crafty mind began to spin a clever plan. “Oh, what a delightful surprise! I jumped down here for a drink of the most marvelous water! It’s cold and sweet, just like summer rain. You simply must come down and taste it!”
The goat's ears perked up, her mouth watering. “Is it really that good?” she asked, curiosity sparkling in her eyes. “The best water you’ll ever find!” the fox exclaimed, his eyes twinkling with mischief. Trusting his words, the thirsty goat didn’t think twice and jumped right in — THUD! She landed beside the fox with a clatter.
“Wonderful!” the fox grinned, his plan unfolding perfectly. In a flash, he hopped onto her back and used her sturdy horns to scramble up to the rim of the well. As he clambered out into the warm sunlight, he looked back down at the goat, chuckling. “Oh dear friend! If only you had thought a moment longer! Now you’ll have to figure out how to get back up all by yourself.” With a triumphant flick of his tail, the sly fox trotted away, leaving the goat gazing up at the tiny blue patch of sky above.
Feeling the weight of her hasty leap, the goat took a deep breath. She realized she had to think carefully about her next move. As the sun dipped lower, painting the sky with beautiful shades of orange and pink, the goat found her way back up, determined never to leap without a plan again.
