In a shimmering forest where the sun danced through the leaves and birds sang sweet melodies, there lived a clever fox named Felix. With a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous grin, everyone knew Felix was the smartest creature around. One sunny afternoon, an idea sparkled in his mind like the bright sun overhead. He trotted over to his friend Clara, a tall and graceful crane, who lived in a lovely nest by the lake.
“Knock, knock, knock!” went Felix’s paw on Clara’s door. “Hello, dear Clara! I’ve cooked a special dinner just for us! Come to my den at sunset!” Clara flapped her wings with joy, her heart fluttering like a butterfly. As the sky turned a warm orange, she flew to Felix’s home, her tummy rumbling with excitement.
When Clara arrived, she saw a low stone table set with two flat dishes filled with a fragrant soup that bubbled like a happy brook. But as she dipped her long beak into the shallow dish, she realized it was too flat for her to sip! Felix, with his sly grin, slurped it up with ease, leaving Clara feeling hungry and disappointed.
A week later, Clara hatched a clever plan. She knocked on Felix’s door, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “It’s my turn to cook! Please come for dinner tonight!” Felix's ears perked up, and his mouth watered at the thought of a delicious meal.
When he arrived, he was greeted by the delightful aroma of rich, savory stew wafting through the air. Clara had placed two tall jugs on the table, filled to the brim. With grace, she dipped her beak into one jug and relished every drop. But Felix was in for a surprise! His short snout couldn’t fit into the jug at all! He twisted and turned, desperately trying to sip, but the delicious stew danced just out of reach. His stomach growled loudly as he trudged home, feeling very hungry.
As he walked, the weight of Clara's clever trick sank in. Felix realized that sometimes a trick could come back around, and that being kind was much better than being clever.
