The Hidden Treasure

Aesop's Fables

A timeless Aesop's fable retold for young readers — with a lesson that lasts a lifetime.

In a sunny village where flowers danced with delight, there lived an old Farmer and his two lively sons. The Farmer loved his boys very much but noticed they only worked hard when they could see shiny treasures waiting for them. One sparkling afternoon, he called them to his side and said, "My dear sons, a treasure is hidden somewhere in our vineyard! If you search well, you will surely find it!"

The boys' eyes lit up like the twinkling stars! They pictured chests overflowing with glittering gold and dazzling jewels. After their father passed away, they wasted no time. With bright shovels in hand, they raced to the vineyard, ready to dig for their fortune.

Day after day, the vineyard buzzed with excitement. They dug beside the swaying wildflowers, between the rows of twisting vines, and even near the ancient stones that seemed to whisper secrets. But as the days turned to weeks, disappointment draped over them like a thick cloud. All they found were roots and dirt.

Just when they were ready to give up, something magical happened! The sun beamed down, and the grapes, once shy and hidden, burst forth like little green gems, glistening under the golden light. The vineyard transformed into a colorful wonderland, bursting with sweet scents and laughter.

As the brothers gathered basket after basket of juicy grapes, their hearts swelled with joy. They realized the treasure their father spoke of was not gold hidden in the ground but the rich harvest grown from their hard work and love.

From that day on, the vineyard became a place of happiness, where laughter blossomed alongside the grapes, and the brothers discovered that working together brought them a treasure far more precious than they could have ever imagined.
