The Little Girl and the Emperor

Akbar & Birbal Tales

A classic tale retold for young readers — full of wit, wisdom, and wonderful surprises.

On a bright and sunny morning, a little girl with sparkling eyes tugged eagerly at the robe of Birbal, the wisest man in the kingdom. “Baba! Please take me to meet Emperor Akbar! I want to see the palace!” she chirped, her voice as sweet as a bird's song. Birbal chuckled, trying to resist her charming pleas, but her laughter was like magic, and soon he gave in with a smile.

As they approached the grand palace, the golden gates swung open, revealing a world of wonder. The air was filled with the sound of splashing fountains, and the scent of blooming flowers danced around them like fairies. The walls sparkled like the night sky, and vibrant gardens stretched as far as the eye could see.

Inside the royal court, Emperor Akbar sat on a magnificent throne, adorned with jewels that glimmered like stars. When he saw the little girl standing proudly beside Birbal, his eyes twinkled with warmth. “Welcome, dear child!” he exclaimed, his voice rich and inviting. With a wave of his hand, a parade of servants brought out the finest sweets and delicious drinks, making the little girl’s eyes widen with delight.

Then, with a playful grin, the Emperor leaned forward and asked, “Do you know how to talk?” The court gasped, wondering how she would respond. But the girl, with courage, replied, “Yes, Your Majesty. I speak neither too much nor too little.”

The court held its breath. “What do you mean?” Akbar asked, his curiosity piqued. She smiled and answered, “I share my words with friends, and listen carefully to my elders.”

Suddenly, a loud laugh erupted from the Emperor, echoing through the palace like music. “HA! Like father, like daughter! Birbal, she is a treasure!” Laughter filled the room, and even those who were jealous of Birbal had to nod in admiration.

The little girl beamed, feeling proud and joyful as the court celebrated her cleverness. On that day, she had shown everyone that a bright mind can shine, no matter how small the person.
