In a lush, green jungle, where the leaves shimmered like jewels and flowers danced in the gentle breeze, all the elephants had short, pudgy noses like tiny buttons. But one little elephant stood out from the rest—her name was Ellie, and her heart sparkled with curiosity brighter than the sun! Every day, Ellie wondered about the world around her. “Why is the sky so blue?” she asked the butterflies, fluttering by. “How do the birds know where to go?” she pondered as she watched them soar.
One sunny afternoon, her curiosity bubbled over, and she couldn’t help but ask the biggest question of all: “What does the Crocodile have for dinner?” The other elephants gasped in shock! “Oh no, Ellie! Don’t ask that!” warned her mother, her big ears flapping anxiously. “Never, ever!” cautioned Auntie, while Daddy shook his head in worry.
But Ellie’s adventurous spirit was too strong. So, off she wobbled down to the sparkling Limpopo River. The water glimmered like diamonds under the sun, and Ellie peered over the edge, spotting a long, mysterious shape just beneath the surface. “Excuse me! Are you a Crocodile?” she called, her voice sweet and timid.
With a sudden flash, a great yellow eye opened wide. “I might be,” the Crocodile replied, his voice smooth like syrup. “Come closer, and I’ll tell you what I had for dinner!” Heart racing, Ellie tiptoed near, but just as she leaned in, SNAP! The Crocodile clamped down on her tiny nose!
“Let go!” Ellie squeaked, her eyes wide with surprise. With a firm tug, she pulled back, and suddenly, SPLASH! The Crocodile yanked one way, and Ellie yanked the other. Her nose started to stretch—longer... and longer... until with a big splash, the Crocodile let go, sending her tumbling into a pile of soft leaves!
When she stood up, Ellie gasped in wonder. Her little nose had transformed into a magnificent trunk, twisting and curling like a playful vine! “Oh my!” she whispered, giving her new trunk a joyful wiggle. She picked up a leaf with a gentle pluck, sprinkled cool water over her back with a cheerful splash, and leaned down to smell a flower from three feet away! The scent was sweet and delightful.
Rushing home, Ellie trumpeted with excitement, eager to show her family her marvelous new trunk. Her friends gasped in awe, and one by one, they marveled at her transformation, each wishing for a trunk of their own.
As the sun dipped low in the jungle, Ellie shared her thrilling adventure, and laughter filled the air as they all played together, discovering the wonders of their world. Ellie realized that her curious questions had led to a surprising change, sparking fun and joy for everyone around her.
