Every morning, a cheerful little donkey named Dandy set off down a dusty path, carrying a heavy load of sparkling salt bags on his back. Dandy was the proud partner of Mr. Salty, the jolly salt-seller. As the sun kissed the sky and a soft breeze danced around him, Dandy wished he could skip through the fields instead of trudging along with his burdensome load.
One bright day, as they approached the gurgling river, Dandy felt extra weary. Just as he was daydreaming of fluffy clouds, he slipped on a slippery stone and—SPLASH!—he tumbled straight into the cool, bubbling water. To his amazement, the salt bags fizzed and fizzled like candy in warm milk, disappearing right before his eyes! When he climbed out, the bags felt as light as feathers. “What a delightful surprise!” Dandy thought, excitement bubbling in his chest.
From that day on, Dandy pretended to trip at the river—SPLASH!—and the salt would vanish, lightening his load and making the journey to the market so much easier. But Mr. Salty noticed his beloved salt was disappearing too quickly. "Hmm, something's fishy here," he said, scratching his head and plotting a clever plan.
The next morning, Mr. Salty filled the bags with fluffy cotton instead of salt. “Let’s see what happens now,” he chuckled. Dandy, unaware of the switch, happily trotted to the river, ready for his trick. He took a deep breath and—SPLASH!—down he went! But instead of disappearing, the cotton soaked up the water like a thirsty sponge, swelling and growing heavier and heavier. Dandy struggled to stand, his legs wobbling as he dragged himself out of the river, panting and miserable.
When they finally reached the market, Dandy collapsed on the ground, utterly exhausted. Mr. Salty knelt beside him, gently patting his head. “Sometimes, trying to take the easy way out makes things even harder, my friend,” he said with a kind smile. Dandy nodded, understanding that honest work was the best way to travel. From that day on, he carried his load with pride, knowing the true joy of doing things the right way.
