The Crow and the Cobra

Panchatantra Tales

An ancient Panchatantra tale of clever animals, cunning tricks, and wisdom that has lasted thousands of years.

In a magnificent banyan tree that danced with the breeze, lived two shiny black crows named Coco and Clara. They built their cozy nest high among the branches, where secrets floated in the air and the world below sparkled like a treasure map. But lurking in the shadows was a sneaky black cobra, cold and crafty. Every year, he gobbled up their little chicks as soon as they hatched, leaving Clara’s heart heavy with sorrow.

One starry night, when the moon shone brightly, Coco and Clara flew to seek help from their clever friend, Jake the jackal. His den, by the shimmering river, was known for wise advice. “Jake, please help us!” Clara cried, her eyes wide with worry. Jake scratched his chin and, with a twinkle in his eyes, said, “I have a plan, but it will take courage!”

He told them to fly to the bustling capital city, where shiny treasures were left unattended. “Find something beautiful, and let the guards chase you back to the tree! Drop the treasure into the cobra’s hollow — it will be a perfect trap!” With fluttering hearts, Coco and Clara set off, feeling both nervous and excited.

In a vibrant royal garden, Clara spotted a magnificent necklace sparkling like stars. “This is it!” she thought. With a swoop, she snatched it up. “THIEF! STOP THAT BIRD!” shouted the guards, and off they went, chasing Clara through the streets. Coco flew close behind, cheering her on silently.

They reached the banyan tree, and Clara dropped the necklace into the cobra’s hollow with a soft CLINK. Just then, the guards arrived, panting and determined. The fierce cobra slithered out, ready to strike! But the guards were quick. WHACK! CRACK! THUMP! They bravely fought the cobra, and soon, he was defeated!

Watching from their tree, Coco and Clara cheered with joy. For the first time, their nest was filled with hope instead of sadness. As the sun set, painting the sky with orange and pink, they nestled together, grateful for their clever plan and the magic of friendship.
