Snowflakes twirled through the air like tiny fairies, covering the world in a soft, white blanket. An old farmer trudged along a snowy mountain path, his heart heavy like the cloudy sky above. Suddenly, he heard a heart-wrenching cry that pierced the quiet. Following the sound, he discovered a beautiful crane tangled in a cruel wire, its stunning white feathers shining against the snow.
With great care, the farmer knelt beside the crane, his fingers trembling as he worked to free the bird. Finally, with a soft SNAP, the wire fell away! The crane shook its wings and, with a powerful WHOOSH, soared into the chilly sky, leaving the farmer speechless and amazed.
That very night, as the wind howled outside, a gentle knock echoed at the farmer's door. When he opened it, a young woman stood there, her hair dusted with frost. “Please, may I come in?” she asked softly, her eyes sparkling like blue lakes. The farmer welcomed her inside, and as days turned into weeks, they shared laughter and stories, their love blooming like flowers peeking through the snow.
One day, she said, “I want to weave beautiful cloth for us, but you must promise not to peek while I work.” Trusting her completely, the farmer agreed. For three days, the sound of the loom filled their home with a gentle melody. Each time she stepped out, she shimmered like a star, bringing home gold from the market.
But as the cloth grew more dazzling, the woman grew weaker, and worry tugged at the farmer’s heart. Unable to wait any longer, he peeked through the door. To his shock, instead of his wife, a crane stood at the loom, its wings frail and missing feathers.
Just then, the crane turned and saw him. The loom fell silent, and the woman appeared, her dress as light as mist. “I am the crane you saved,” she whispered, her voice soft and sorrowful. “I wove each thread with love, but now that you’ve seen my true form, I must go.”
With a heavy heart, she stepped outside. Before the farmer could speak, she transformed! Her brilliant white wings unfurled, lifting her high into the stormy sky, disappearing with a final, powerful WHOOSH. The farmer stood in the doorway, snowflakes settling gently on his shoulders, realizing that trust is a delicate thing, easily broken but forever cherished.
