The grand throne room of Emperor Akbar was as quiet as a whispering breeze. Everyone held their breath as the Emperor's face turned stormy. "Birbal!" he thundered, his voice echoing off the shiny walls. "You have made me the laughingstock of my court! You are BANISHED! Never return!" His fist struck the armrest of his golden throne, making everyone jump. The jealous courtiers exchanged gleeful glances, thinking, “At last, Birbal has met his match!”
With a humble bow, Birbal walked out of the palace, his head held high. Days turned into weeks, and the royal court became duller than a rainy day. Without Birbal's clever jokes and quick wit, the palace felt empty. The courtiers scratched their heads, their turbans slipping off in frustration, while even the Emperor gazed sadly at Birbal's empty chair.
One fine evening, a curious sound broke the silence — CLATTER! CLATTER! CLATTER! A dazzling little chariot, draped in colorful silk and shimmering golden tassels, rolled towards the palace. The courtiers gasped, for inside sat the familiar figure of Birbal, grinning from ear to ear!
“GUARDS! Bring him to me!” Akbar roared, surprise and fury bubbling within him. “Birbal! You were banished! How DARE you return?”
Birbal stepped forward, calm and collected like a gentle breeze. “Your Majesty,” he said, his voice sweet like honey, “I followed your orders perfectly. The chariot's floor is covered with soil from the neighboring kingdom! My feet haven’t touched YOUR ground at all!”
A hush fell over the court, then — BOOM! Laughter erupted like fireworks! Even Akbar’s stern face broke into a wide grin. He stepped down, his eyes sparkling with admiration. “Only YOU could turn a punishment into a victory! You are forgiven and reinstated!”
With a graceful leap, Birbal made sure to touch the ground outside the chariot first, just to be safe. As laughter filled the palace once more, the jealous courtiers sighed, knowing they could never outsmart this clever man. The palace was bright and lively again, and the Emperor knew he was lucky to have such a brilliant mind by his side.
