The Brass Pot and the Clay Pot

Aesop's Fables

A timeless Aesop's fable retold for young readers — with a lesson that lasts a lifetime.

In a cozy kitchen storeroom filled with colorful jars and shiny utensils, there lived a bright Brass Pot that sparkled like a sunny star. One day, with a twinkle in his metallic eyes, he called out to his friend, the delicate Clay Pot, painted in soft pastel colors. “Come on an adventure with me tomorrow!” he exclaimed, his voice ringing like a cheerful bell.

The Clay Pot hesitated, worry flickering in his heart. “Thank you, Brass Pot! But I fear I might not be safe with you. You’re strong, and I’m so fragile! One bump, and I could break!”

The Brass Pot laughed, his voice warm and bright. “Don’t fret! I promise to take care of you. Just stay close, and I’ll keep you safe!” Reluctantly, the Clay Pot agreed, not wanting to seem afraid.

The next morning, as the sun stretched its golden rays across the sky, they were placed on a cart, ready to roll. Off they went, bouncing along a bumpy dirt road twisting through fields of flowers and tall, whispering grass. The Clay Pot marveled at the butterflies dancing above and the birds chatting cheerfully.

But suddenly, the road grew rough, and with a jolt, the cart hit a deep rut! The load lurched! The Brass Pot swung sideways and, with a loud clink, knocked into the Clay Pot! “Oh no!” cried the Clay Pot as he felt a sharp pain, cracking and shattering into tiny pieces that scattered like confetti all around.

The Brass Pot gasped, his shiny surface dimming with sadness. “Oh dear friend! I didn’t mean to hurt you!” he cried, his heart heavy with regret. The joyful chatter that once filled their storeroom faded into a quiet lesson, echoing a truth that would linger long after.

From that day on, the Brass Pot learned that good intentions weren’t enough to keep everyone safe. True friendship meant being gentle and wise, especially with those who needed a softer touch.
