In a cheerful village nestled beside a bright, green jungle, there lived a kind cart-maker named Ujjwalaka. Although he worked hard, his family sometimes felt a bit hungry. One sunny afternoon, while exploring the jungle, Ujjwalaka stumbled upon a tired mother camel resting by the path. “Oh dear friend, you look in need of help!” he exclaimed. With love, he offered her fresh water and sweet, crunchy grass.
As the sun dipped low, a tiny baby camel wobbled to her feet, her eyes sparkling like stars. Ujjwalaka beamed with joy and took both the mother and her baby home. With the milk from the mother camel, Ujjwalaka's family grew stronger and happier. To celebrate their new friendship, he tied a shiny brass bell around the baby camel's neck. Jingle-jingle-jingle went the bell as she frolicked happily about!
Every day, the herd visited a shimmering lake to drink. The wise older camels stayed close together, but the bell-camel loved to wander off. “Stay with us!” they warned. “The jungle can be tricky!” But the bell-camel flicked her ears, thinking, “I’m special! Nothing can happen to me!”
One sweltering afternoon, a sneaky lion prowled through the jungle. His sharp eyes caught the delightful sound of jingle-jingle-jingle! Following the noise, he hid behind the bushes, watching the bell-camel who was wandering too far from her friends.
Suddenly, the lion sprang! The cheerful jingle faded into silence. As the sun began to set, Ujjwalaka anxiously awaited the herd. But they returned without the bell-camel! His heart sank, and the wise older camels bowed their heads. “We tried to warn her,” they said sadly.
Ujjwalaka understood then that even the most cherished ones can find trouble if they ignore good advice. He vowed to share stories with his family, teaching everyone the importance of staying close and listening to those who care. Though the bell-camel’s laughter was missed, her story would live on in their hearts forever.
