In a bright and colorful village in ancient China, there was a wonderful tradition where firstborn sons were given the longest, most magnificent names! The longer the name, the more loved the child was believed to be. In this lively village lived a cheerful mother with two energetic sons. Her firstborn had a name that sparkled like magic: Tikki Tikki Tembo-no Sa Rembo-chari Bari Ruchi-pip Peri Pembo! His younger brother, however, was simply called Chang. Although Chang had a short name, he loved his brother with all his heart.
One sunny day, the brothers played joyfully near an old stone well, the flowers around them swaying in the gentle breeze. They raced around the well, giggles echoing like chimes, until—SPLASH! The ground gave way beneath Chang, and he tumbled right into the well! Tikki Tikki Tembo's eyes widened in shock. Racing as fast as lightning, he shouted, “CHANG FELL IN THE WELL!” The villagers sprang into action, ropes and hands flying through the air, and soon Chang was safe and sound, coughing but unharmed!
But wait! Just a little while later, Tikki Tikki Tembo, feeling a bit too adventurous, slipped on the slick stones—SPLASH! Down he went into the dark, chilly water! Panic filled Chang’s heart as he sprinted to find help, shouting, “Tikki Tikki Tembo-no Sa Rembo-chari Bari Ruchi-pip Peri Pembo fell in the well!” The adults blinked in confusion, trying to untangle the long name that rolled off Chang’s tongue like a wild river.
Chang took a deep breath, trying again, but the name was too long to say quickly! By the time the villagers understood, Tikki Tikki Tembo had been in the water for far too long. They finally pulled him out, but it was a close call! From that day on, the villagers realized that while long names can be beautiful, sometimes it’s the short and simple ones that save the day—especially when adventure takes a twist!
