The Boy Who Knew Everything

Vikram & Betaal Tales

A spine-tingling Vikram and Betaal riddle — where a brave king must answer or lose everything!

In a magical land where the sun painted the mountains golden and rivers giggled like children at play, there was a wondrous city called Gyanpur, the City of Knowledge. Here lived a boy named Neel, who had a dazzling talent as rare as the brightest blue diamond. Neel could remember everything! Every tale he heard, every face he saw, and every word from the countless books he read sparkled in his mind like stars in the night sky.

By the time Neel turned ten, he had memorized all the books in the royal library. People traveled from faraway lands just to test his knowledge. No riddle or tricky question could outsmart him! When he turned eighteen, he became the youngest royal advisor, and the king often sought his wisdom.

One day, a poor old farmer shuffled into the grand court, his eyes glistening with tears. “Your Majesty, please help! My neighbor tricked me and stole my land!” The courtroom held its breath, waiting for Neel to speak. With a serious face, he looked at the evidence and recalled every law he had memorized. “The document is real. The land belongs to the neighbor,” he announced, his voice echoing like thunder.

The farmer's heart sank as he was swept away by guards. Just when all hope seemed lost, a wise old woman with shimmering silver hair came forward. “Your Majesty,” she said gently, “Neel knows all the facts but didn’t see the farmer’s hands — rough and worn from years of hard work. The neighbor’s hands are smooth, untouched by the soil.”

The king’s eyes widened as he called for Neel to return. This time, Neel looked closely at the farmer’s hands, and a wave of sadness washed over him. He realized he had focused only on facts and forgotten to see the truth standing right in front of him.

From that day onward, Neel became a different kind of advisor. He learned to blend what he knew with what he saw and felt. The city of Gyanpur sparkled even brighter with magic and wisdom, while Neel, with a new gleam in his eyes, became a beacon of hope, reminding everyone that true wisdom comes from understanding the stories behind the facts.
