The Boy Who Made the King Laugh

Cozy Bedtime Stories

A gentle bedtime tale to drift off to — warm, cozy, and full of sweet dreams.

In a palace that kissed the clouds, there lived a king who never, ever laughed. His face was as serious as a stormy sky, and he made a rule that no one in the kingdom could laugh, not even a tiny giggle! When silly things happened—like a chicken that splashed into the royal pudding with a loud SPLAT!—the villagers just stared at their shoes, their eyes sparkling with laughter they had to hold inside.

One sunny day in the bustling marketplace, a little boy named Oliver felt a tickle in his belly, like butterflies fluttering about. Suddenly, he burst out laughing, “Pffft — HA HA HA!” But oh no! He knew he was in BIG trouble for breaking the king’s laughter rule! Clever and brave, Oliver thought fast. He gathered his friends and together they created a silly play filled with whacky characters—a man pretending to be a horse CLIP CLOPPING and a horse dressed as a judge with a wig too big for its head!

With excitement bubbling in their hearts, they marched to the palace gates. “Oh, mighty King!” Oliver called out. The guards raised their eyebrows, but the king, sitting like a stone statue, waved them in. The play began, and as the horse “judge” made the silliest decisions, Oliver’s heart raced. The audience sat silent, not a sound escaping their lips!

Just then, as the horse declared a cow to be the best dancer, magic filled the air! The king’s eyebrows twitched, and then—like a balloon bursting—he let out a belly laugh that echoed through the halls! Gasping, the crowd erupted with laughter! Guards chuckled, servants giggled, even the royal cat purred in delight.

Wiping joyful tears from his eyes, the king declared, “From now on, laughter is welcome in my kingdom!” The palace transformed into a joyful place, with laughter blooming like flowers in spring, filling the air with happiness. Oliver and his friends smiled wide, knowing they had brought joy to everyone, including the once-serious king.
