The Boulder in the Road

Moral Stories

A heartwarming moral story with a lesson that stays with you forever.

Once upon a time, in a kingdom where golden sunshine danced on sparkling rivers and flowers painted the fields in every color of the rainbow, there lived a mischievous King. One stormy night, as clouds cloaked the moon, he had a brilliant idea. “Let’s test the bravery of my people!” he giggled, rubbing his hands together. With a flick of his wrist, he commanded his strongest servants to roll a gigantic boulder into the busiest road of the kingdom. THUD! The boulder sat there, dark and heavy, blocking the way for everyone.

The next morning, as the sun peeked over the hills, travelers rushed to and fro. First came a fancy merchant in a shiny carriage, his horses snorting in frustration. “What a nuisance!” he fumed, waving his arms and ordering his driver to steer around the boulder, mumbling about foolishness. Next, a line of soldiers marched, their boots stomping as they grumbled about the oversight. They too skirted the boulder, their faces twisted with annoyance. Then, a dapper lord passed by, wrinkling his nose in disdain, declaring, “Such a pity!” before his carriage whooshed around the obstacle.

Hour by hour, people arrived, farmers, ladies, and wanderers—all grumbling about the boulder but no one lifted a finger to move it. Just when the sun began to dip behind the hills, a humble peasant woman appeared, her cart piled high with crisp, green cabbages. She gasped at the sight of the boulder blocking her path. Instead of turning back, she took a deep breath, rolled up her sleeves, and said, “Let’s give it a try!”

With determination, she planted her feet and began to push. NNNNGHH! Her face flushed, and her arms shook, but she didn’t quit. Slowly, the boulder began to budge! With one last mighty heave, it rolled off the road with a thunderous thump. As she caught her breath, she noticed something shiny glimmering in the dirt beneath the boulder. She knelt down and discovered a small leather purse! Her heart raced as she peeked inside—gold coins sparkled back at her!

Filled with pride, she tucked the coins into her apron and smiled brighter than the sun. As she continued to the market, she felt a warm glow inside, knowing she had faced a challenge with courage and kindness. Hidden nearby, the King watched with joy, realizing he had found someone truly remarkable, someone who didn’t just complain but took action to make a difference.
