On a sunny afternoon in the cheerful city of Benares, a cozy tavern sparkled at the corner of a lively street. Inside, the air danced with the sweet scent of spices and laughter, all thanks to the kind tavern owner who decided to take a refreshing swim in the nearby shimmering river. He left his eager young bartender in charge—a boy with dreams as big as the sky!
As the boy polished the shiny glasses, he noticed something curious: after each drink, the customers would reach for a pinch of salt, creating a rhythm—SWIG, then PINCH; SWIG, then PINCH. He wondered why but kept quiet, wanting to look clever.
One bright day, an exciting idea popped into his head like a shooting star! “What if I put salt directly in the drinks?” he exclaimed, his eyes sparkling. Off he zoomed, adding salt to every jug, barrel, and bottle, imagining how everyone would cheer for him!
As the sun dipped low, customers arrived, laughing and chatting. The boy's heart raced as he served the first drink to a friendly man with a bushy beard. But just as the boy beamed with pride, the man took a big swig and his eyes widened in shock! “BLAAARGH!” he spat, and soon everyone followed suit, gagging and sputtering, “PTOO! PTOO!”
The tavern erupted in chaos! Laughter turned to confusion, and the once joyful place fell silent. The boy stood frozen, his heart sinking as he realized his mistake.
When the owner returned, dripping from his swim, he found the tavern empty and the drinks ruined. Heartbroken, he rushed to his wise friend, who listened carefully. “Sometimes wanting to help can lead to trouble, especially when we don’t ask questions,” the adviser said gently.
The boy, overhearing this wise talk, felt a warm glow of understanding. He learned that asking questions is the first step to wisdom. With a fresh start, the tavern soon buzzed with laughter again, and the boy welcomed each customer with new joy and curiosity, ready to learn and grow.
