In the glittering kingdom of Benares, there lived a magnificent elephant named Ladyface. With big, twinkling eyes and a gentle heart, he was the happiest elephant in the land! Children loved to swing from his great trunk and climb onto his huge ears, giggling with joy as they played. Ladyface adored his friends and brought smiles to everyone around him.
But one dark morning, everything changed. Ladyface’s cherished keeper entered the shed with his usual cheerful smile, when suddenly — CRASH! In a wild fit of anger, Ladyface swept him up with his trunk and tossed him aside like a feather! WHAM! He did the same to two more helpers, leaving the kingdom in gasps of terror. The once-loving elephant was now a creature of chaos!
The king, worried and trembling, called for the wisest advisor in all the land, the Bodhisattva. “What has happened to our beloved Ladyface?” the king cried. Calm and brave, the Bodhisattva approached the enormous elephant and spoke softly, “Oh, dear Ladyface, what troubles your heart?” To everyone’s surprise, Ladyface perked up, eager to hear kind words.
He soon learned from the guards that robbers had been visiting at night, shouting terrible things and spreading fear. “Ladyface is not sick,” the Bodhisattva said. “His heart is filled with darkness from the cruel words he has heard.”
Determined to help, the Bodhisattva suggested gathering kind monks to speak lovingly outside the shed every night. The king agreed, and soon the air was filled with sweet stories of love and laughter. Night after night, the gentle words wrapped around Ladyface like a warm hug.
As the kindness flowed into his ears, the fierce fire in Ladyface’s eyes melted away. Little by little, he became gentler and softer, filling the kingdom with happiness once again.
One sunny day, the cheerful children returned, and laughter filled the air. Ladyface stood tall and calm, his heart overflowing with joy, proving that even the darkest moments can give way to light when love fills the heart.
