Khudadad and the Demon

Arabian Nights Tales

A classic tale retold for young readers — full of wonder, magic, and timeless wisdom.

In a grand palace of shimmering white marble, where sparkling fountains danced in the sunlight, there lived a king in the magical land of Damascus. He had three wives and two boisterous sons, but his third wife, gentle and kind, was sent away before her baby was born. In a cozy forest clearing, she raised her son, Khudadad, by herself.

Khudadad was no ordinary boy! His mother taught him all sorts of wonderful things—how to read stories, cook tasty meals, and even how to fight like a brave warrior. As he grew, he became as tall as a mighty tree and as strong as the wild desert winds. One evening, while the sky blazed with beautiful oranges and purples, he asked his mother, "Why don’t we live in the palace?" With a heavy heart, she told him the truth about his father. Determined to prove himself, Khudadad declared, "I will go to the palace and bring you home!"

With bravery shining in his heart, he joined the king’s army. Khudadad fought like a lion and caught the king’s attention. The king made him the personal bodyguard of his two lazy princes. They always galloped off into the forbidden forest, and one day, they vanished into thin air! The king roared with anger, "Bring back my sons!"

Khudadad ventured deep into the dark forest, where he heard a soft voice crying for help. He followed it to a deep pit and found a beautiful princess trapped inside! "Help me!" she cried. Suddenly, the ground shook, and a fearsome demon appeared, roaring like thunder. But Khudadad, with courage in his heart, leaped into action! He swung from a hanging root and struck the demon with his sword. The beast fell with a mighty crash!

"The cave!" cried the princess. Khudadad rushed to the cave and opened the heavy doors, freeing everyone inside, including the two princes! When the king learned that Khudadad was his own son, tears of joy filled his eyes. He brought Khudadad's mother back to the palace with grand celebrations.

Khudadad married the lovely princess he had rescued, and together, they filled the palace with laughter and love. No longer lonely, Khudadad had finally found his place in the world.
