One sunny afternoon, the grand court of Emperor Akbar sparkled like a treasure chest filled with jewels. The walls were draped in vibrant tapestries, and golden sunlight danced on the marble floor. But Emperor Akbar sat on his majestic throne, looking very thoughtful, as if he were trying to solve a tricky riddle.
“Birbal,” he sighed, rubbing his chin, “I’ve been pondering something quite curious. People say God is just and fair, yet look around! Some wear silks and shine like stars, while others wear tattered rags. How can this be fair? Some are strong like roaring lions, while others are frail as leaves in the wind! Where’s the justice?”
The courtiers gasped, their eyes wide with concern. Questions like these could stir trouble! But Birbal, with his twinkling eyes and sly grin, was undeterred. Leaning in, he said softly, “Your Majesty, may I ask you something? You’re the mightiest emperor, like the sun above. Do you pay all your servants the same?”
Akbar frowned. “No, of course not! They earn their pay based on their work.”
Birbal continued, “And if a soldier bravely defends the kingdom, does he earn more than a lazy one?”
“Yes!” Akbar replied, his frown deepening.
“Then would it be fair to call you an unjust king?” Birbal whispered, his words hanging in the air like a spell.
The court fell silent, the tension as thick as a magician's mist. Akbar’s eyes widened, and he thought deeply, the truth wrapping around him like a cozy blanket.
“God, like you, rewards those who work hard and pray sincerely,” Birbal said gently. “It’s our choices and efforts that shape our fortunes. God simply reflects our actions back to us.”
Akbar raised his head, a bright smile breaking through his clouds of confusion. “Birbal, you’ve opened my eyes to a whole new world!” With a flourish, he unclasped his dazzling pearl necklace, each gem sparkling like stars, and offered it to Birbal. “For your wisdom, my friend!”
Cheers erupted in the court, as they basked in the warmth of understanding. It was a celebration of hard work, honesty, and the magic that happens when you put in your best effort, just like flowers blooming when cared for with love.
